A proposed systematic review of human comparative studies: recording quality, fitting burden, comfort and the relevance of the evidence to prolonged clinical monitoring.
Prepared 19 October 2026. Not registered, peer reviewed or completed. Meta-analysis is conditional on comparable data.
These are candidate systematic-review questions. A formal search of databases and protocol registries is needed before making a novelty claim or committing to a review.
Useful alarms in adult intensive care
In externally evaluated scalp-EEG seizure detectors, how do false alerts per recording hour relate to seizure sensitivity and alert delay?
Our EEG AI commentary examines selected evidence. A formal review would separate patient- and event-level results, identify reused datasets and distinguish continuous clinical recordings from selected clips.
Skin safety during prolonged EEG
Which attachment and skin-care approaches preserve recording continuity while reducing electrode-related skin injury and discomfort?
Compare monitoring duration, scalp location and injury definitions. Ambulatory, ICU, adult and paediatric evidence would need separate interpretation. An ambulatory EEG trial provides one starting point, not an answer for ICU care.
Build on what is already known
Broad reviews of rapid and reduced-montage EEG already exist. Lin et al. (2025) examined reduced-montage seizure detection; Wang et al. (2025) examined point-of-care EEG accuracy and clinical impact. An additional review needs a distinct question or a justified update.
Our initial literature scan is exploratory. It does not establish that a proposed topic is new, that all relevant studies have been found, or that enough studies can be combined.
How evidence will be reported
Design note
An explanation of a design decision informed by selected sources. It is not an exhaustive review.
Systematic review
A predefined, documented way to find, select and critically assess the evidence for a specific question.
Meta-analysis
A statistical combination of compatible study results. It is an optional part of a review, not a substitute for assessing the studies.
We intend to publish protocols, search methods, study-selection decisions, extraction tables, analysis code and limitations alongside completed reviews, where permissions allow. PRISMA supports transparent reporting; using its checklist does not by itself establish review quality or peer review.
A review of other devices can inform Sentinel’s design and evaluation plan. Clinical performance claims for Sentinel require evidence from Sentinel itself.
Contribute to the first review
The proposed review needs clinical neurophysiology, EEG technology, evidence-synthesis and statistical input, alongside people with experience of EEG fitting across hair textures. Contributors and responsibilities have not yet been confirmed.
